Testimonials (unedited)

“As a woman in my 60s, I am acutely aware of wanting my next years to be full of vitality and personal meaning. This desire is sharpened by the possibility of cognitive and physical limitations that come with aging. I worked with Sophie over several months to identify goals and create habits that heighten my engagement in daily life, move me toward my priorities, and promote brain/body health. As she supported my efforts through feedback, new ways of doing things, or reframing setbacks as useful insights, Sophie was integral to my moving forward with new focus, energy and supportive habits. It takes time to change the way one lives and without Sophie’s reinforcement, my commitment would have likely wavered. Glad I saw this program through.” — B

“I am so happy to recommend Sophie Mayo and her framework for Building Brain Resilience. Over our 12 weeks, Sophie wove together in-depth information about the importance of building a healthy gut microbiome along with sleep, exercise, creativity and more, to create the best environment for my brain, body and emotional well-being. All of this was presented with an “Abundance Mindset” which focused on adding new 'things'; (e.g. food, exercise, ...), rather than simply eliminating the bad. What a wonderful way for me to explore and become delighted with things that left me feeling good.

Four months after starting this course I am feeling better and more confident about what I need to do as a 67-yr old woman to live my healthiest life. Sophie’s enthusiasm for what she is teaching is contagious, as can be witnessed by the growing number of healthy seeds and grains in my pantry and refrigerator! Her teaching was backed up by research-based articles and lots of great recipes!! She always met me where I was, willing to answer lots of questions or explore topics that I wanted to know more about. I felt completely supported throughout our time together and as I reviewed all the information she compiled in My Brain/Gut Workbook, I’m psyched to have this reference to turn to again and again. Thank you Sophie! “ — P

“ Sophie, as I reflect on the past 3 months, I am awestruck with how much we accomplished!  I came into the program with a few objectives and some concerns.  I wanted to stay ahead of insulin resistance and  lose some weight through a sustainable shift in my food selection vs a diet. Increasing my movement and exercise while recovering from an injury and improving my sleep patterns were also important to me.  I believed that over the years, I had been successful with several of these areas and knew what to do however I was struggling with getting started and being consistent.

What has struck me is that YOU were the difference maker in accomplishing all of my goals.  You provided structure with our weekly sessions, a customized program, accountability with goal setting and follow-up and you tied it all together as you guided me through, providing the science and the “why”.  You connected the dots, met me where I was and inspired me to set small goals for each week and try new things!

This framework has been life changing and debunked myths and messages I had told myself for many years about sleep!  I used to be proud of and feel it was a superpower to be able to function on 4 – 6 hours sleep when I needed to.  Sleep disturbances and feeling fatigued during the day had been on the rise and as you educated me about the importance of sleep in the 3 legged stool of brain and gut health, I learned to listen more closely to what my body was telling me.

I now better understand the interconnectivity of Sleep, Nutrition and Movement and the impact they have on overall health, brain health, insulin resistance, gut health and overall physical health and mobility.  I accomplished all of the goals I set, improved my sleep, I am eating more whole plant foods, enjoying trying new foods and meal prep makes it so much easier to stick to healthy eating and have been increasing my physical activity ensuring a minimum of 10,000 steps.  I am looking forward to continuing our journey together building on the original goals and adding the balance in work, life and stress.

Thank you for your guidance on this journey. “ — J
